An Open Letter to the President

This very sad set of circumstances over guns could cause us as a nation to lose our soul. History will not be kind to a nation that could not furnish a remedy that would protect their children from such torture.

Dear Mr. President:

First of all, thank you for your many accomplishments so far in your Presidency. Your assistance to Ukraine through the European Union and NATO unified many people. Your domestic policies and full employment successes are remarkable.

Now, because of 400 million guns (20 million assault weapons) in America, we as a nation are experiencing mayhem and upheaval in stores, churches, concerts, saloons and public gatherings. We lead the developed world in domestic deaths by guns, (48,000 annually 2021). The NRA, the gun manufacturers and some politicians want even more guns. Governor Greg Abbott of Texas wants his state to lead the nation in gun ownership. Does anyone doubt that more guns will convert to more deaths by guns?

We have so many mass murders that virtually every police department in the country has to be prepared for the mayhem of guns. Schools are now military zones as children must be trained for “active shooters” situations. Death by guns is now the leading cause of death for children, 18 and under. Sadly, the second leading statistic of death is by suicide. These are unacceptable statistics for any so-called civilized society.

Without a vision, the people perish.

We must act swiftly, to confront and defeat this pathetic gun culture, so that our children do not fear going to classes. Imagine, fearing for your life just attending elementary school.

We must totally rid our country of assault weapons. They did it in Australia and New Zealand with overwhelming positive results, while sportsmen and hunting weapons were protected. We can also do buy-backs to rid us of assault weapons. These weapons can literally destroy the face of a child, rendering that victim unrecognizable. This madness cannot be allowed any longer.

I encourage you without reservation, to confront the gun issue publicly. The voters will stand behind you and no doubt will take courage in any positive actions you take. This very sad set of circumstances over guns could cause us as a nation to lose our soul.

History will not be kind to a nation that could not furnish a remedy that would protect their children from such torture.
