What! Huh?

60% of Americans polled do not agree with the direction our country is heading. Those 60% cannot remain silent. They must realize our Founding Fathers were the money class and the power class in 1787, yet they gave up that position to give the government to “the people”. Right now, the people must demand that the country be given back, including the People’s White House! We must recapture our political spirituality, our leadership in the free world, and our devotion to distinguish between right and wrong. We have allowed a very dangerous situation to develop where our Executive can play political baseball without fear of foul lines or umpires. Who got us into this situation and why? Now a 250-year-old political experiment may be going south without a fight? What! Huh?

The first U.S. president that seems hell bent on being a dictator?

MY BACKGROUND AND WHY THE BLOG?

I am 88 years old, the youngest of nine children, and the only one to obtain a college degree. I am a grandfather; my wife and I put three children through college. I’m a retired small business owner, a writer by avocation and a history devotee. I am a U.S. Army veteran with two older brothers buried in Arlington National Cemetery. Both of my brothers saw extreme combat during their years of service. My two years in the Army as a draftee stationed in France and Germany was a great experience for a nineteen-year-old.

My heroes, among many, are St. Francis of Assisi, St. Thomas More, George Washington, and Abraham Lincoln. I believe that if George Washington and Abraham Lincoln were of the Catholic faith, they may have been considered for sainthood. They were public servants personified! They cast themselves as servants to their fellow man. Ultimately their ambition was to do good. I believe Elizabeth I of England should get honorable mention as a superior person as well, being the daughter of Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn! She reigned over her kingdom for the people.

Most of my days after the Army were spent getting an education and I majored in history. I have read hundreds of books on American History and World War II. I played way too much golf and racquetball several times a week for over fifty years. Occupationally, I started out as an insurance adjuster and then owned an independent claims company with several national accounts. At age 40 I decided to go into a less intensive labor occupation and bought into an independent insurance agency. I was fortunate to achieve a “President’s Club” merit 15 times from a national insurance company. Throughout my whole business career, I was very interested in politics. In fact, with a major Detroit newspaper, I had a sizable following on the editorial page because they printed my personal political opinions so often, as I wrote and wrote.

As I started getting deeper into following the priorities of many politicians in the United States, I began to see changes in the American attitude after the 1992 election. Rush Limbaugh and Newt Gingrich arrived on the political and commentary scene, they both advanced what was then called hate radio and hate television. Newt Gingrich was Speaker of the House and had a peculiar political bent. For example, one of his first declarations after becoming Speaker was to suggest that every elevator operator in the Capitol building had to be a Republican!! He also considered the loyal opposition to be targets for ultra criticism, sometimes bitter. Rush Limbaugh considered moderation and liberals to be the object of derision, and he followed up by quickly getting a substantial fan base. Derision and disinformation paid well. So well, that Fox News pundits quickly followed suit.

Dear reader, in 1947 the Federal Communication Commission passed a law called “the Fairness Doctrine”. That law suggested that licensed radio and television companies must retain accuracy in their opinions. In 1987 that provision from the FCC was dropped. Did that give birth and unleash disinformation into the airwaves? It sure seems that way. Now extreme, right-wing radio and television sells a lot of soap via exaggeration, innuendo and disinformation. Fox News’ own pundits have been the reason for many substantial financial claims against the broadcaster. Some of their losses were in the millions of dollars. Fact check!

I have written two self-published books, one on politics and one on climate change. I had a transcript written depicting my two years in the Army (never published). It was a true love story about meeting a French girl from the Sorbonne who I met in Paris. We had a three-year relationship described in the book Love and Country. Then I self-published my first book, The Seven Myths told by Conservatives. My second self-published book in 2011 was on climate change, titled End Times Prose and Poetry. That book is still available on Amazon. If you are concerned about global warming, you may want to read this book and then note well that the most jaded of our citizens still reject the fact that climate change is indisputable. Why the president of the United States rejects this fact should be noted. Being anti-science and against sustainable energy solutions like solar panels and windmills defies reality and will harm the future of our children.

Anyway, I started forming critical opinions about conservatives and politicians on the hard right. It got so bad that a good friend of mine in February of 2023 said that I should simply start a blog to express my opinions in the public forum. That blog of course is “Returntothebeginning.com”. Why that title? That title is because I feel from a civics point of view that we have failed our children and grandchildren because of too few discussions concerning our political beginnings. Those Americans who wrote the Declaration of Independence and those Americans that created the U.S. Constitution were politically exceptional. They really did have a unique spirituality toward politics. They rigorously studied past political philosophies. Those 55 men were perhaps the billionaire class of their day. Yet they had fought England for freedom and created the U.S. Constitution which replaced a failing Articles of Confederation. Remember, they surrendered their own political positions and decided to create a “more perfect union” for “the people”. Now after 250 years their great experiment is suffering. The MAGA Republicans, the Heritage Foundation, the Federalist Society, CPAC, and several Fox News pundits all are attacking our Institutions as negative and created by “wokes”. You must realize that our Institutions were created by a thoughtful legal process under Article 1 of the U.S. Constitution. The “woke” argument is pure, made-up nonsense. The Social Security system, the unemployment system, USAID, EPA and many other institutions, are not just “woke” inventions. Our Institutions were conceived of and approved by Legislation. Please note well that in 1962, John F. Kennedy and many others sponsored the creation of USAID as a foreign aid tool to feed starving children throughout the world. This was conceived as a “soft power” method for giving the free world positive political thoughts about the generosity of the United States of American. In 1962 foreign aid made up just 3% of our federal budget while today it is way under 1%. Please fact check this! Is this reduction in our best interest? It just may be evidence of social and moral decay in our politics, especially because right now, China is replacing the United States as a moral force in many developing countries. China is also being perceived as a more reliable country to do business with. We should all note well that China now has a viable $14,000 electric car and last year became the number one producer of electric vehicles in the world. Please note they have already been number one in the world for years at manufacturing sustainable energy products like solar panels and windmills. Would you believe that today, in the United States, we are cancelling a fully funded off shore windmill project after 50% completion? Does this sound peculiar to you? What! Huh?

OUR PRESIDENT

Now we have a president of the United States who started his career in business as a wealthy man with millions of dollars gifted from his father. But you should know what he has done in business because it is relevant to what he does in politics. Remember he was primarily a commercial real estate developer, fully financed in the beginning by his father. He was not quickly successful on his own. After his father died, Donald Trump filed for bankruptcy six times. One case stands out, that being his casino in Atlantic City. Some 800 employees lost their pensions. Note well that a casino can hardly ever be a losing venture. Why? Because every throw of the dice at the craps table has a built-in profit. The roulette wheel has a built-in profit percentage. Blackjack has a built-in established return. And slot machines can be structured up or down for profit according to the owner’s whim. The reason I bring this up is he went bankrupt many times, blaming others instead of himself. And remember he was a relatively small commercial real estate developer, but he was involved in over 3,400 lawsuits. Fact check! Meanwhile he's had many disputes with the government, for example his Family Foundation in 2019 was fined $2,000,000 by the state of New York and had to be dissolved. He dodged the draft to avoid the Viet Nam war. The Trump University students brought a lawsuit for fraud over their $35,000 “educational investment” prior to 2016. He voluntarily paid a settlement of $25 million for that in 2017. He was convicted of fraud over the 2016 election, in May of 2024, on 34 felony counts. He was impeached twice. He had two federal cases against him suspended after he won the 2024 election.

While running for office against Hillary Clinton, the Mueller report found over 100 Russian operatives were engaged in assisting Donald Trump in his campaign. I remember writing at that time that he had, “Putin Envy”. And of course, his famous rant on national television in August of 2016 was; “Russia Russia find the Hillary Clinton emails!” After the election in May of 2017, he invited the Russian Ambassador and several other Russians into the White House, he allowed only the Russian press to be present. There is a quote he said to the ambassador, “I've taken care of everything”. During his first term as president, he continuously supported and defended virtually 90% of Vladimir Putin’s actions. Now, in the first year of his second term, the evidence is mounting that he is our very first unamerican and anti-American president. Why? He wants all the power. He wants to dominate every single political position by making loyalty the test in his Cabinet and his political dealings. Loyalty ahead of talent. Loyalty before knowledge. Loyalty and subservience are demanded. If loyalty is ever shown to be weak by a MAGA Republican, Trump has made it clear that he will fight back. He often shows cruelty. Trump is often crude and disrespectful to the female press in his office. He has used Project 2025 and DOGE as a vehicle to destroy many parts and many forms of our long-established Institutions. Has he and Elon Musk proven their tactics on attacking our Institutions are successful? Have they found waste, fraud and abuse? No dear reader, do your homework, do your fact checking. It was a big bluff 95% of the time. Several cases this very day are showing terrible results over the reorganization of our Institutions. The number one case in my opinion that is shocking is that of USAID. Our premier foreign aid organization was formulated through the Legislature to provide food and medicine to starving children throughout the world. The authorization to distribute this food was already on the books, in February 2025. But Trump’s Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, Russ Vought head of Project 2025, Kevin Roberts, and VP JD Vance, all followed Elon Musk's lead and closed down the delivery of USAID food to starving children throughout the world. Now it is becoming clear that over 500,000 children in Africa and other parts of the world have already starved to death. Fact check! This tragedy has had no oversight from the MAGA House and the MAGA Senate. In fact, no one has even admitted in the political arena what has taken place. What! Huh? How come? Fact check!

Dear reader president Donald Trump on Christmas Day 2025 boasted of using Tomahawk missiles against ISIS in Nigeria because he said the Christian community in Nigeria was being attacked by ISIS forces. This was denied by ISIS and also denied by the Nigerian government. But that is not the issue here, the issue here is that the United States, by denying USAID food to Nigeria last February, has killed many thousands of starving children many of whom were Christians. But now he is using Nigeria as a hypocritical weird way to defend Christians in that country? This makes no sense. There was no oversight, no transparency, and no accountability when they cut off already paid for food that would have gone to starving children. A lot of it in Nigeria. Please note that we used Tomahawk missiles on Christmas day against ISIS. And then remember we would not allow Tomahawk missiles to be given to Ukraine for their defense because Vladimir Putin "didn’t like the idea". Fact check!

Now, our president has invaded Venezuela and has Nicolas Maduro and his wife in New York to stand trial for narcotic sales. One of the most successful narcotic dealers in the world, Juan Orlando Hernández from Honduras, was pardoned in December 2025 by Donald Trump after being found guilty of drug trafficking in 2024. It is hard to understand all these inconsistencies. Remember Nigeria and Venezuelan operations by the U.S. were done by a one-man band, without consultation with Article 1 politicians. How come?

He has made dramatic changes to the people's White House. He has treated the White House as if it is his permanent residence where he is allowed to turn it into the king’s palace? Redoing bathrooms, tearing down the East Wing, planning a $400 million ballroom! None of this is blessed by outside authorities. We are fast becoming a country led by a single conductor. Meanwhile he has less than 40% support from the American people in most polls. After 250 years we now have a unique baseball player on the political playing diamond, who is allowed to play without any umpires or any foul lines. What! Huh?

The immigrant issue is a scandal. We have innocent immigrants, fully documented, shipped out of the country. We have new prisons in America to house “illegal immigrants”, and many of these prisons are competing with those concentration camps built in Germany before 1940. What’s going on? Recently our president suggested that 100% of the jobs recently vacated by immigrants that were sent back to their home countries or put in American prisons, were taken over by American citizens. Dear reader, this is a gross exaggeration. Fact check! Note well, that the Washington Post and the Toronto Star fact checked the president telling over 30,000 lies in his first four years as president. Look it up.

Remember my position as an American citizen is, “silence is consent.” If we allow all these changes to be made without questioning why, then we deserve what we get as voters.

SCOTUS

Part of our problem emanating from the White House has been created by the Supreme Court of the United States. Several members of that group are Christian Nationalists. It appears they have decided to embrace their ideology over reason in several legal opinions. They seem to think that Project 2025 and the redoing of American Institutions is OK prospectively. In fact, some SCOTUS opinions are giving the Unitary Executive branch immunity to ultimately act against the rule of law in many cases! Sound goofy? You betcha! Allowing the Executive Branch to roll over Article 1 of the U.S. Constitution and then reject so many lower court judges, is the most dangerous proposition since the beginning of the U.S. Constitution. Eliminating oversight along with checks and balances, is fraught with legal danger and may just destroy our entire legal system if we go on without correction.

The lower courts in the United States and the Appellate courts are keeping the faith of the U.S. Constitution honorably, meanwhile SCOTUS and the Dept. of Justice, often have simply surrendered to the wishes of the Executive. The Department of Justice is now ready to embrace all the wishes of the Executive branch. This will have devastating effects. Now with little forethought, the Internal Revenue Service is losing up to 20,000 staff and legal members, while the white-collar crime division has been diminished, and is losing many experienced DOJ attorneys. These are two areas that will be weakened as the DOJ falls in line with the Executives’ wishes. These areas becoming legally weaker will encourage tax cheats and many other white-collar crimes. Now attorneys in the DOJ are picked according to political views and their demonstrated fealty to Donald Trump. God only knows what this will do to our legal system. What! Huh?

WHERE ARE WE HEADED?

Sometimes I feel like yelling “where are we headed” from the rafters! I have very strong opinions on American politics. I love my flag. I love my country. I love the U.S. Constitution, and I believe we are undergoing a terrible political divide, led by a cruel and crude leader who seems to admire the Russian style government over our own government, based on his actions. That evidence must be confronted, especially in our 250^th year of government.

Our president does not have any desire to be the leader of the free world. He makes it clear and so does JD Vance and Elon Musk, that they prefer authoritarians in the U.S. and throughout the world. Fact check! Fox News pundits, CPAC, the NRA, the Heritage Foundation and the Federalist Society seem to go along with authoritarianism. However very recently several members of the Heritage Foundation staff announced they are switching sides from President Donald Trump over to Mike Pence. Several MAGA politicians have also expressed doubt over this Administration. Is the king’s boat springing leaks? We must all bear witness.

We are now in the year of our 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. We are in a political weird situation because the MAGA House members and the MAGA Senators are a majority in both places, but that majority follows President Trump on every decision he makes without question. They have given up on their oversight rights under the U.S. Constitution. Article 1 gives the power to establish tariffs, control the “purse strings”, and subpoena power to the House and Senate. For example, the House and Senate have never said a word over the abuse of USAID. They have never said a word over our president giving Javier Milei in Argentina, a $40 billion bank account backed by our U.S. Treasury that he can use any time. Yes, he has been given permission to use up to $40 billion under certain conditions. What! Huh? Dear reader, this is more money (in today’s dollars) than the Manhattan Project used in building the atomic bomb in World War II. This is a misuse of our money because it was not given by any agency outside of the Executive. We have ICE agents getting $50,000 bonuses. We have seen many department heads getting, in one example, a $600,000 personal armored car. We have cabinet members giving out huge contracts to their friends, with no oversight, with no transparency, and with no accountability. Now it is well known that our president has been enriched his first year in office by upwards of $5 billion. What! Huh?

Can we wait until oversight may be reinstated in January of 2027? I don't believe we can. We are on a ride at this very moment of arriving next January having a national debt of $40 trillion, or more. Please note and note well that our president in his first term broke a record on the national debt by spending $7.6 trillion over budget. Is he capable of doing it again? Yep! We seem to have lost control of where our national debt is heading. Article 1 must recapture the “purse strings”.

We need to recapture and reaffirm our U.S. Constitution in every aspect. We need the MAGA House and the MAGA Senate to honor their pledge and their oath to the U.S. Constitution, not tomorrow but today. We need the Executive to realize Americans will not embrace a dictatorship. We must get the judicial branch at the top to reassess their improper ideology and decide cases on legal reasoning. SCOTUS should open their eyes and do what the lower courts and the Appellate courts do, by being beholden to the U.S. Constitution above politics.

Something must be done and we don't have time to waste or we may go broke. AI is now the answer? AI has no conscience and it cannot distinguish between right and wrong. The corporate “Tech Giants” are failing to bring along the American public on their billions and billions of dollars being spent throughout the country to turn the United States into an AI community. Remember robots do not pay taxes! Recall that several AI billionaires have suggested that there could be as many as 20 million American jobs lost to AI. Note also that recently, some AI billionaires are getting cold feet and asking the Executive branch to back their big investments via the U.S. Treasury! Dear reader, this is an old road traveled. We saw it in 1929 (the Great Depression) and 1987 (when the banks and savings and loans went broke). We saw it in 2008 when all those MIT, Wharton School of Finance, and Harvard and Yale boys were “totally surprised” at the ”Great Recession” crash. A new President, Barack Obama, had to come to the rescue. He had to bail out many Wall Street corporate “gurus”. The U.S. Treasury played a large part. Fact check!

When 1,500 billionaires get to choose the direction our country is going, without any oversight, without any transparency, and without any accountability, then we have every right to be nervous and resist! The public has a right to know what our leaders are doing and how much money they are making for themselves. Our Founding Fathers wanted an open and transparent legal system for “the people”. Don’t forget “the people” desire our Constitutional government, not the Russian style of government. The Soviet Union, followed by Vladimir Putin, consider “the people” to be “dupes, stooges and willing idiots”. We cannot accept that approach in the United States because we have become inured to freedom, liberty and a just society, for 250 years and we must make sure it lives on.

So let us pray that a just God will assist us in making corrections using the rule of law, and to beg those members of the House and Senate to take back the power that they so easily surrendered to the Executive branch. Do it now to protect your family name, history’s future judgment, and the judgement of a just God, who knows all and sees all and has made it clear that;” woe unto him from where the offense cometh”.

We can reaffirm and reestablish dignity, decency, and honor simply by recapturing the rule of law and the U.S. Constitution therein. Let us reject the divide and conquer political tactics with a resolve to keep George Washington, Ben Franklin, Alexander Hamilton, and many other great American leaders on our list of men to follow. All of whom served well with honor and decency. Now it seems our president escapes his domestic problems such as the 24 million Americans losing their health care, tariff fueled inflation, the Jeffrey Epstein scandal and our soon to be $40 trillion national debt. Instead, we are getting more wars, daily distortions and too much mayhem. Could it be a way to disguise the truth?

Division, disinformation, and decadence must now be replaced by truth, transparency and Article 1 of the U.S. Constitution. Should we rely on a just God to join us on the side of truth? You betcha! And every American, no matter their political party, their religion, or no religion, everyone should now embrace patriotism to this wonderful country that is still owned by those who want to protect freedom and liberty.

Winston Churchill said in 1941 when England was in great peril from Adolfe Hitler: “men of great vision and imagination never give up, for their eyes are ever on that day of victory”. And I would simply add to that Churchill expression, we need all the help also from the American women who are on a mission to maintain our freedom.

I am 88 years old and I am not in the best of health, so each week when I complete my blog I have this thought: is this my last dying declaration? If so, it is done for our children and grandchildren, it is done for our Founding Fathers and it is done for a just God.

We absolutely must all save our country from so much chaos and mayhem. This will allow decency and fellowship to be brought back into the political realm of activities.
