Past presidents Harry Truman, Dwight Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama would all be appalled at ex-President Donald Trump’s admiration for Vladimir Putin and equally his indifference to Vladimir Putin invading Ukraine.
September 2, 1858, in Clinton, IL, during the debate with Stephen Douglas, Abraham Lincoln said: “You can fool all the people part of the time and part of the people all of the time. But you cannot fool all the people all the time.”
Now we have ex-President Donald Trump again running against current President Joe Biden. It is important we have informed voters able to distinguish and contrast the good qualities of each candidate according to the test of Abraham Lincoln.
Ex-President Donald Trump never understood or cared for Abraham Lincoln and for that matter never had much interest in our Founding Fathers. It seems clear that Trump’s mentor is Vladimir Putin because he has spoken of him in the past as a great leader quite often. Meanwhile, he has voiced little respect for our U.S. Constitution and on several occasions has voiced derision of that document. He has avoided the military draft by getting a false medical document suggesting he had bone spurs. He recently stated the recently retired U.S. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley should be put to death for a phone call made to a Chinese political official. The ex-President was uncomfortable around past American heroes and very uncomfortable with anyone having had a serious war wound. He said World War II soldiers that died in that war were “suckers”.
The ex-President continuously suggests that most of his legal problems arose out of the Biden Administration using the Department of Justice as a weapon against him. He suggests this makes him a victim of a witch hunt. However, in the past in many cases we have to seriously question his being a victim. For example, he paid a porn star $130,000 to keep her silent. In January 2017 (a week before taking his seat as U.S. President) he paid 25 million dollars to settle a Trump University lawsuit. That suit was commenced by disgruntled students claiming fraud. In December of 2019 he paid a $2,000,000 fine for abuse of his family foundation, which he was forced to dissolve. In January of 2023 he lost a civil rape case wherein the jury awarded the victim $5,000,000. He is appealing that case. So, if you examine the above it seems like a very weak argument that the ex-President is a victim in these cases.
When Donald Trump became President his first legislation passed was to make it easier for Americans doing business overseas to avoid being charged for any payola used to complete the business deal. His second important legislation was a tax cut which affected the already rich. The cost of that tax reduction was the U.S. Treasury losing over a trillion dollars annually in revenue. After 4 years in office the President set a 4-year first term record for debt, amounting to almost 8 trillion dollars.
He also set a record for turnover of White House staff. He governed by chaos and constant controversy. He was impeached twice. Once for dealing with Ukraine searching for wrongdoing in that government by Joe Biden. His second impeachment was for causing riots at the Capitol building on January 6, 2021. Over 700 people are serving time in prison as we speak with more convictions on deck. There were 62 court cases over the Big Lie that showed no wrongdoing or provable fraud in that election cycle.
There are 92 Federal charges pending against Donald Trump and one civil case in New York, for fraud in his business dealings. The judge is currently considering a $250 million fine.
Litigation has followed Donald Trump his whole business career. In Atlantic City his casino failures were part of the 3,400 known lawsuits in his business practice. In many of these cases he often spoke of the judges as “political and crooked.”
Donald Trump has been repeatedly factchecked by the Washington Post Newspaper. They found during his term as President, over 4,500 spoken lies.
Now as far as the political life of Joe Biden we found that in 1991 he was cited for plagiarizing a law review article at Syracuse University. While U.S. Senator in 1991 he chaired the Supreme Court seat interviews over Clarence Thomas. Anita Hill accused Senator Biden of being soft on her assertions that Clarence Thomas had engaged in sexual harassment.
During Joe Biden’s Vice Presidency for 8 years under President Barack Obama, there were no scandals in government. There was no criminality in the White House staff or the cabinet. Many of the claims that Joe Biden did favors for his son Hunter Biden actually occurred while Joe Biden was a mere citizen without a political position.
Now the U.S. Congress seeks to have President Biden impeached. They are studying Articles of Impeachment but have shown few facts upon which to build a case. He is accused by many of criminality over his son Hunter Biden’s business dealings but they have not offered a shred of evidence. When President Joe Biden took office, he asked the Department of Justice to keep the Trump appointed prosecutor on the case of Hunter Biden.
Financially supported by his tax records President Joe Biden’s income outside of government wages were from his book written about his deceased son Beau Biden. Currently after 2 ½ years as President, Joe Biden has added over 13 million jobs and is setting a record for low unemployment. He has signed bipartisan bills limiting who can own a gun, expansion of U.S. infrastructure and other legislation to help reduce inflation. He has strengthened NATO and our position in S.E. Asia. He favors much more support for Ukraine in their fight against the Russian invasion.
Joe Biden is 82 years old in good health and speaking clearly with much resolve. Ex-President Donald Trump is 3 years younger, 40 pounds overweight, and has recently spoken with several mistakes over dates, times and names.
So, if we read the above events in each candidate’s sketch we should vote over who can best maintain accountability, the rule of law via our U.S. Constitution and carry out the spirit of our Founding Fathers that has lasted over 240 years.
The major question facing choices over the two Presidents is whether we want to forsake the historical and spiritual civility of our Founding Fathers, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams and Alexander Hamilton. Do we want to replace them for a Vladimir Putin and Viktor Orban type of autocracy? The Republican Party (CPAC) and candidate Donald Trump has expressed much more admiration for Putin and Orban than for past famous American political figures. Past presidents Harry Truman, Dwight Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama would all be appalled at ex-President Donald Trump’s admiration for Vladimir Putin and equally his indifference to Vladimir Putin invading Ukraine.
We all must choose wisely to keep America free while maintaining our past moral compass as a nation. We must not become Godless, soulless, truthless or politically clueless.
God bless the United States of America and we must all pray for the continued success for the Ukrainian nation.
